BUSY
My goodness, what a week! It was a very, very busy week indeed. Exam and wedding, equations and two continents equal lunacy. The good news is my exam was over this morning. For the record, today is the beginning of much anticipated semester break. Yay!
Few days ago, during the examination week, I was in Moscow for a brief but significant trip. I was there for my best friend’s wedding. Luckily enough I had some time. After a short Moscow trip, I rushed back home for the exam. Thankfully, everything went smooth as planned. Now I am back at home, in my little private world (my room).
So, before I post some visual shot of Moscow. I want to share with the whole world what Moscow has – London, New York, and Paris has not. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the busiest, largest, grandest, most efficient, and beautiful metro and public transport system in the world, the Moscow Metro.
MOSCOW METRO
There are 150 metro or subway systems in the world and Moscow Metro is almost without doubt the grandest. Moscow Metro is beautiful, ornate and grand. Decked out with stunning examples of socialist realist art, Moscow Metro is the world’s largest subway system in terms of passenger rides, carrying eight to nine million passengers on an average weekday. It also boasts 265 km of track, eleven lines and 165 stations. An average distance between stations is 1800 m, resulting in commercial speeds of 42 km per hour and is almost entirely built underground.
The construction of Moscow Metro begun in the early 1930s and is famous for its palatial marble stations with mosaics, chandeliers, and precious materials. The first line opened in May 1935 and two more lines were added before the World War II. Natural stone materials, including semi-precious stones make each station individual and give them a museum-like atmosphere. Coarse-grained pink marble is used for wall decoration, white marble was brought from the Ural Mountains, Central Asia and the Caucasus. Black marble comes from the Urals, Armenia and George and decorates Byelorusskaya, Ploshchad Revolutsii, Elektrozavodskaya and Aeroport. Deep red marble in the Krasnye Vorota station is from Georgia. Semi-precious stones such as pink rodonite and marble onyx are used in panels and plates at Dinamo, Byelorusskaya and Kievskaya.
Moscow Metro has ten radial lines and one 20 km circular line that connects all the other lines. The Metro uses a unique method for denoting the travel direction. On the ring line male voices are used for clockwise travel and female voices for counter-clockwise travel. The incoming (towards Moscow city’s center) radial lines use male announcers while the outgoing use female.
Moscow Metro is AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, EFFICIENT, and RELIABLE. It makes London's Underground dreadful. Moscow Metro was a perfect example of Soviet civil invention and architectural marvelous. Western journalist won’t have to agree with me. Finally, watch out Olympic 2012 candidate cities (London, Moscow, New York, Paris), Moscow has better public transport.

Snap Shot - Macro
|
|
THE TOOL
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Lens Type: Prime Lens
Camera: Canon EOS 10D
THE MISSION
Yesterday, Dayang asked for my help with her new assignment. Guess what? Macro photography. Creepy huh? well not really. FYI, Dayang is a good girl and she has been a good friend of mine, so why not. After all, I love photography.
THE REVIEW
Two words, great lens. Canon outdid themselves on this one. For the money, there is no better or equal medium-length macro lens on the market. I say this in full confidence, having tested both the Sigma 105/2.8 EX Macro and Nikkor 105/2.8 AF Micro lenses. Sigma lens may be a value-conscious shopper's dream, but for a couple of hundred more you get a lens that is far superior in virtually every aspect.
All three lenses are very, very sharp, but Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM edges out its competitors by a nose, and is sharper wide-open, which makes it a superb multi-function portrait lens as well. Flare is well-controlled, and bokeh is silky smooth. Color is accurately rendered as is contrast. Focus is fully internal so there is no extension or rotation of the front element. Filter size is a cheap 58mm. This lens is good for flower and insect closeup or macro photos.
The negative sides are that it hunts quite a bit, not really an issue with macro photos, tripod collar and hood are not included and very expensive.
PROS
- Light
- Razor sharp
- Superb colour
- Superb contrast
- Superb image quality
- Superb bokeh
CONS
- Doesn't come with hood (Cheap Canon)
- Expansive tripod colar (USD 130, Hello Canon?)
- Slow USM (Well, it's macro lens, what do you expect)
- Slow AF
- Polycarbonate body
ADVISE FOR MALAYSIAN
Looking for new lens? BUY IT ONLINE! Trust me, it far more cheaper and you can save up to 50%.

Trip Shot - Penchala Link
|
|
PENCHALA LINK
Penchala Tunnel is Malaysia's widest and most beautiful tunnel. The new tunnel will enable motorists to travel on a new direct link to Kuala Lumpur. In addition, the new Penchala Link will serve as the main spine road and a catalyst for growth in the area. Together with Damansara and Kerinchi links, the 5.5 km Penchala Link is the third and latest addition to the West Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dissolve System or locally known as Sprint Expressway.
IMHO, Sprint Expressway is the third most beautiful expressway (in term of scenery) in the Klang Valley after North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and Shah Alam Expressway (LSA) managed by KESAS (Shah Alam Selangor Expressway Consortium).

A short trip to Port Dickson with X, Liew, Dayang, Alel, Faiz and Myself.
PORT DISCKON
More popularly known as PD, Port Dickson is synonymous with sun and fun on the beach. Situated a mere 32km from Seremban and 60km from Kuala Lumpur, PD has long been a weekend retreat for many inland dwellers, especially those from the city seeking temporary escape from the hustle and bustle of a hectic and stressful life.
Originally a town where charcoal was made and was once called Arang, it was later sought to be developed as a port. While it never did develop into a full-fledged port, PD's popular beaches attract thousands of weekend visitors from the cities.
